Mr. Ernst Liebermann and Mr. Johann Waelchli (pictured) established a trading business under the name "Liebermann and Waelchli."

1923

Established offices in Osaka.

1969

Became agents for Chanel, Cartier, Hermes and Rolex in Japan.

1985

Registered the brand name and trademark “LIWACO“ for making watches and toys. The company’s ”LW“ logo in the trademark was taken from original lapel pins used by employees of “Liebermann and Waelchli“ in the early days and remains the company logo to this day.

Established “OZARKGEAR“ brand of outdoor garments for the China retail market.

Mr. Harold Mueller joined the company in Zurich and soon thereafter moved to Yokohama, Japan. The company’s core businesses included silk, mother-of-pearl buttons and, carpets for export to Europe. Some of the company’s original carpets are actually on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Expanded operations into Manila, Taipei, Seoul, Guam, Jakarta markets.

Sale of the main group while retaining the LIWACO brand name.


Johann Mueller established the present group in Hong Kong under the LIWACO name - manufacturing toys and outdoor garments for renowned international brand names.

Opened offices in Hong Kong, Peking, Shanghai, Tientsin and New York. Subsequently all of which had to be closed down due to problems related to World War II, with the exception of the Hong Kong office.

Mr. Johann Mueller (son of Harold Mueller) joined the company in Japan as head of export division, exporting toys to US and Europe (Nintendo, Nikko, Sanrio, Hello Kitty, Seiko, Casio etc.)

Discontinued all toy operations to focus on core outdoor business.

The Company remains under the ownership and control of the Mueller family who maintain their roots in Zurich, with company operations headquartered in Hong Kong.
